NV+ [X-RAID] Firmware Updates?
Hi,
I have a NV+ [X-RAID] s/n 000da201b78c with firmware 4.00c1-p2 [1.00a037] that is working fine but hasn't had any TLC since about 2008. I would like to update to the latest available software, but am not exactly sure what to download and whether or not updating directly to the latest firmware will work.
My plan is to update the firmware and start using it to actively back up my new laptop, using AJC Active Backup V2. I have a fair amount of backup data from two older PCs on the NAS at the moment. It wouldn't be a complete disaster if I lost it, but it would be much better if I could simply update the firmware, add a new folder for the new laptop using AJC Backup's configuration utility, and party on.
Any advice in getting from where I am to where I want to be would be appreciated! ;-)))
TIA,
Frank

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI'd try a normal update. You shouldn't lose data, but If the data matters to you it is wise to update/create a backup first.
- paynterfAspirantThis one?
arm (version 5.3.10) for DuoV2 / NV+V2
TIA,
Frank - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserNo. 4.1.13 http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... .13-(sparc). If you manually download to install, make sure you unzip it - trying to install the zip won't work.
You have an NV+ v1, not a v2. (note "v2" here means the ARM platform released in 2011, not the Sparc platform you have). - paynterfAspirantThanks - that was the piece I was missing! ;-)
- paynterfAspirantTried updating via the 'Check for Updates' button in FrontView - got 'Can't connect to remote server' error. Checked DNS entries, and they are are the same the ones shown for my router.
Downloaded the 4.1.13 (sparc) version for my NV+, unzipped into a folder, selected the RAIDiator-V4.1.13 file from that folder (63,441,408 bytes) and then clicked on 'Upload and Verify Image', but nothing happened. Did this several times, then checked the log - no relevant entries, although there were some from earlier in the day from other edits.
Am I missing something here?
Frank - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThat should have worked for you. Maybe try deleting all log files and trying again.
- paynterfAspirantThanks!! Clearing the log seemed to do the trick. Updated successfully to 4.1.13.
Any idea why the remote update didn't work?
Frank - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserNo idea on the remote update failure, though the 4.00c1-p2 firmware was 7 years out of date. It's conceivable that the update server DNS name changed, or possibly some other issue related to the age of your firmware.
- paynterfAspirantSpoke too soon. The update seems to have worked (RAIDar shows 4.1.13), but the home screen on Frontview is blank, and the system summary part doesn't get populated with hostname, serial number, etc. Everything else seems to be OK
Prior to the update I could see this information on the home screen. Any idea why it isn't showing up now (multiple refreshes do nothing)
Remote update works now, so the firmware update cured that problem too ;-)
Frank - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt could have cached the old version of Frontview.
Try clearing your web browser cache (e.g. Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer), closing your web browser, re-opening Frontview and seeing if it appears any better.
