NV+2 - Accessible by DLNA, not by NFS/SMB #24513857
Hi all,
New to the forum, looking for some assistance regarding some very strange permissions issues on my NV+2.
Last week I was experiencing the 'device is offline, please wait error'. I then re-built the OS twice and somehow managed to regain access to the front view.
Since then, I've been unable to access my shares through Windows (no permissions) but can access using DLNA (through a WDTV Live Player and Windows Media Player to name some examples).
I would be more than happy to wipe the NAS and start again but am also experiencing issues with backups on one particular share; including, "Reason for failure: Unable to access source path" and when using putty to SSH in, it only displays 10 out of 100 folders in the share (when DLNA can see the complete directory listing).
I can also see the full directory listing (all 100 folders) in the front view share browser.
Would really appreciate any advise/ideas on how to fix the perms or just backup the problem share so I can restore the NAS.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers, Scott.

Again, not sure if it is relevant, but the MOVIES share as above is the problem share, it seems it doesn't have '-> c/********' following it like the other 5 do. - tj1scottAspirantI also ran du -sh* on the root:

To me, it seems like there's a directory, named MOVIES on the root, using 3.4GB. That must be the files I see when I list the share, instead of the ones stored on /c/MOVIES - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredLooks like that's it.
That /MOVIES folder is filling up the OS partition.
You could move it to /c/MOVIES (if that directory doesn't exist) or perhaps delete it.
Do you know what created that share? Perhaps an add-on or other service is somehow configured incorrectly? - tj1scottAspirantYeah, seems to be it. I'm happy to delete it, but I'm just a little paranoid in case I delete the /c/MOVIES share instead. Any idea how I can access the /c/MOVIES so I can backup the data on it to USB?
I'm not sure what created the share as the only add-on I have is Enable-RootSSH and I've since rebuilt the OS - which I presume removes the addons? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAn OS Re-install doesn't remove add-ons.
What do you see if you do

I have made some progress. If I start at root and use 'ls /c/MOVIES', I can see all the folders as they should be. I can also use 'cp -r /c/MOVIES /USB_HDD_1/MOVIES', to backup the data but getting an input/output error. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAre you able to test the health of the USB disk?
- tj1scottAspirantYeah i think I'm going to have to.
So being that I copy backup the data (once the USB is working again), would you suggest I do that and then just re-build the NAS from scratch rather than fixing the perms issue? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSounds like a good plan. Though if the USB disk has issues then replacing it with a new USB disk would be the way to go. But other than that your plan sounds good.
- tj1scottAspirantAgreed. It's strange tho as the hard drive is only two days old and I managed to backup 4 out of the 5 shares to it before attempting the 5th, at which point I got the error.
Regardless, will give it a crack! Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it!!
