One Time Update Backup from secondary ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus to primary ReadyNAS 628

During a Firmware 6.7.4 upgrade four months ago, a ReadyNAS 628 appeared to brick. The 628 was stuck at "Welcome" and would not boot at all over the next couple of days--even with disks removed and replaced by a blank one. Finally shut it down and used my backup Ultra 6 Plus (U6P), which had been the rsync backup of the 628, as the primary NAS until today when the 628 booted fine from the blank disk and then from the original 8 disks.

I have just updated backups of the 628 to eSATA drives. Now, I want to transfer the files added to the U6P in the last four months to their respective shares on the 628 and to use the 628 as the primary again--essentially an incremental backup of added files on U6P to the 628.

I tried to set up a raync backup of the relevant shares from the U6P to the 628, but it looks as if an inital "full backup" is going to wipe each share on the 628 and replace it with the relevant share on the U6P instead of just adding more recent, missing files within each share. There may be files on the 628 missing from the U6P, which I do not want to lose. Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do?

  • Make sure that "Remove deleted files on target" (on advanced tab) is not checked.

Also make sure that the "remove the contents of the backup destination before full backup" (on options tab) is not checked.

That will make sure that any files that are only in the backup destination are preserved.
