OS6.5.2 → 6.6.0 after the update, Volume cannot be mounted #27562305

Talk to support and send in the log to the engineer.

Apparently, they find out the ReadyNAS cannot mount my Volume, and the system is missing a conf file. The disk is healthy and there is no data corruption. Is there any instruction around so that I can mount my disk using ssh? Any sample mount file to reuse so that I can mount my md127 (RAID 5) again?

  • After reviewing your logs I would suggest that you continue to work with support on this.

I couldn't see evidence of a missing conf file.

Your disks appear to be healthy but the data volume cannot be mounted.

I have the same issue - I can't see a way to contact Netgear about an issue caused by a firmware update without paying £90 - is this correct? Seems a bit off :(

I have a problem with the corrupted root and the BTRFS volume (used by Netgear) cannot be mounted.  BTRFS is part of the linux kernel and it can screw up the filesystem when changes from one version to the other.  Also, the BTRFS is not designed to be backward comptaible.

I am working with the L1 support which believes it is a simple problem.  Eventually, L2 support said it is a data recovery issue which costs $180 US to start (I did not go with this option).  At the end, I get my hands dirty to create a linux machine to try to fix it myself. Long story short, the latest linux still cannot mount the file system. Eventually, I bought the software http://www.reclaime.com/library/btrfs-recovery.aspx which uses Windows.  The data recovery software can read my unmountable RAID 5 (X-RAID) and I am able to recovery all of my data at home (4 days for 5 TB of data).  I recommend to get this if you have a spare PC to install all of your HDs.  At the end, you own the software lifetime.

I will not buy any Netgear product since it is using BTRFS.  Or, it is because I am being screwed when I upgrade the FW.  My QNAP exprience is far more superior.
