OSX Lion, delays when opening certain docs on NAS
I haven't seen anybody else discussing this, but it's so noticeable to me I find it hard to believe nobody else has noticed it. The setup: Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7....

I haven't been able to replicate any behavior that seems like caching.
If I open a folder on the NAS that has a bunch of jpegs in it, and I double-click one, it takes about 6 - 8 seconds before Preview opens it. That's even for a 902KB image. If I close the image, then double-click it in the Finder again, the behavior is exactly the same. Double-clicking on any other jpegs in the same folder produces the same delay.
Same behavior for PDFs or TextEdit text documents. Basically, any NAS-resident document that is opened by a Lion app that is Versions-capable seems to result in a long delay before the document is opened.
By contrast, a Microsoft Office document on the NAS opens instantaneously.
Populating icons in the NAS folder doesn't seem to have any delays that I notice. To test this, I went into my iPhoto Library (which is stored in my media share on the NAS) and browsed various large folders; I didn't really see any delays in showing directory contents or icons.
