Pathetic Virus Scanner
I have a RN31600
Just upgraded (15-May) to v6.7.1
How do we get the imbisiles at NetGear to stop bombing us with emails about supposedly infected files ???
Today I got more than 30 emails form the RN316 in 5 mins nearly killing my phone because files that have been on the RN316 for 18 months or more & not touched even once, suddenly have viruses in them... which is utter RUBBISH!
I've raised this before but NetGear does not give a %#%# !!! They sold it... they have my cash.. . & dont stand by their products!
Last time it cost me a contract for work. I was humiliated in front of a client... today I was at a job interview & couldnt bring up details I need because of the constant stream of incomming email
Maybe legal action against NetGear is on the cards !???

If you think emails are erroneous you could setup an email filter so they don't go into your main inbox folder.

Or just turn off the Anti-Virus option if you don't really need it. I also get false positives from their scanner on my NAS even though Norton sees nothing wrong with the same files. I would venture to guess they just need updated DAT files to properly match actual virus signatures.

You say the Anti-virus is pathetic, so stop using it. Turn it off in the GUI, reboot the NAS and no more emails.
You can also set rules/filters in your email settings (like with Gmail or Outlook).
Getting false positive sometimes seems fair. You say you get 30 emails in 5 minutes, you may have an actual problem there...
Can you at least post an example of email you get?

Hi Guys
Thanks for the responses.
I'm stuck between that void where the email are erroneous but 1 time they might actually be right, hence why I havent set up email rules.
The thing that annoys me the most is that the files have not changed in anyway & suddenly I'm bombarded by "they're infected" emails, I do nothing & 12 hrs later they emails stop. If they were really infected, they'd still be infected, right??

All the files being put on my NAS are coming from my own PCs (which have their own real-time protection). There's no need for AV in the NAS itself - so I have it turned off.
If that's also true in your case, then you could turn it off.
Also the quarantines would happen no matter what the email filter does, so there's no harm in creating an email filter (though you should of course check the AV folder). Note you can turn the filter on when a flood begins, then turn it off later.

You are saying that you
- get the emails
- the files are not quarantined or deleted
That does suggest something is wrong. It might be useful if you post a sample email.
