I thought I read somewhere that you lived in another country so I figured my plan wouldn't necessarily work (international shipping isn't exactly cheap, especially considering how big and bulky these things are.)
Hopefully you figure out a way to get your data back though. Not sure why the 316 started a resync on you.
At this point though I'd definitely see if there's any way that support can log in and fix the issue (there should be some form of local support, if there isn't then one of the staff here should be able to get you in touch with a higher up level 2 or level 3 tech to go in and try to fix whatever issue is going on... perhaps reach out to mdgm in a private message or something, he's usually very willing to help.)

This doesn't sound like a problem caused by moving your disks to an OS6 unit but rather a problem caused by the failure of your old unit.
Assuming the OS, array and volume on the disks, and the disk themselves are fine then the process will work smoothly.
Now that it hasn't the way forward is to contact support.
You would have encountered the same problem moving your disks to another 4.2.x unit.

Some new developement.
I got hold of a second-hand Pro Pioneer that arrived yesterday.
Put in a spare disk and updated the firmware to the same version that was running on my dead Pioneer.
Powered down and moved over the disks in the same order.
Power on, and to my surprise everything worked perfectly, yeeeee haaaaa:-)
All my shares were available, no data lost. No error messages at all.
It didn´t start to resync any disks, or as with the 316 report the array as being Raid6 and 100% full.
In fact it was exactly like booting up the old Pioneer with everything in place ( did have to google the default password though )
So now I´m in the process of backing up my data to other places.
And contemplating if I should keep the 316 or return it.
I have no idea why the 316 didn´t work with my 4.2x array, but I´m happy to have all my data back:-)
Great many thanks for all your valuable input and help guys, I really appreciate that;-)

Awesome! I'm so glad it worked for you (figured it would!)
If I were you unless you paid way too much for the 2nd pro unit I'd return the RN316 and that way you have spare parts from the other unit should you need them.
Then you can either upgrade it to 6.0 or keep it where you're at.
Glad you proved mdgm wrong!
