Pro 2 disappears permanently from RAIDAR after setup

Couple things to add. The disks are actually Hitachi, which i haven't done any digging for a tool from them yet.
The other thing I noticed when I put the disks back in is the disks will churn for a short while (about 30 seconds) then you don't hear them at all anymore. In addition at that point the activity light stays on and solid. It's really acting like it hangs during boot.
I tried the skip volume check boot option with the same results.
Does it make sense to factory default it again so it shows in RAIDAR, then through the boot menu tell it to do a disk check?
Also, thoughts on doing an erase operation on the disk through RAIDAR prior to running setup? Think it will help?
Otherwise, i'll start getting some of the disk diagnostic tools out.
