Pro Pioneer very loud - OS 6.5.1
I have a Pro Poineer Edition (6 bays) running on OS 6.5.1. Bays 1 thru 3 are filled, each with a Seaget 3TB HDD. All HDD's are fairly new, with power-on hours ranging from 1000 thru 9000. No ATA erro...
The thing is: it was never that loud. I can't be sure exactly but this problem has only occured in teh last months or so. So I'm thinking it might have something to do with the last upgrades of the firmware. From my memory it was loud from OS 6.5.0 on.
Does anyone else experience this?

What fan profile are you using? quiet, balanced or cool???
Certainly fan and cooling issues have popped up with legacy NAS running OS 6 from time to time. The good news is that Netgear has generally fixed them (at least so far).
So it could be related to 6.5.0. But of course it's also August (which might be relevant if you are in the Northern Hemisphere). It could also be a fan bearing starting to fail - if so, it will get worse.
FWIW, my pro-6 (4.2.28) shows the system fan at 1300 rpm and the CPU fan at 2200 at the moment. Disk temps are about 33C.
One thought is that you could get a sound meter app for your phone. Even if you can't calibrate it, it will still be able to measure changes in noise levels over time. BTW you do need to calibrate those apps. I have one on my Samsung Galaxy that was 9 db off (when compared with a real sound meter).
In OS6.5.1, I used the Silent profile.
I say "useD" because of the fact that I decided to revert back to an earlier version to see if the louf fan problem is 6.5.0/6.5.1 related. I chose to go back to OS6.4.0.
Short answer: nothing's changed. Loudness still there... SO, not 6.5.0/6.5.1 related, it seems.

I have reverted back to OS 6.4.0 and am now in the proces of slowly moving up to the latest version. I plan to have every version run for a few days to establish if the loudness is version-related.
At the moment I am at version 6.4.2, and the loudness is still there. I have to say though, that the Pro Pioneer seems to be running more smooth.
CPU temp is at 46C/115F with the fan running 1318rpm; system temp is at 60C/140F with fan at 843. All this while doing a heavy rsync backup job from another ReadyNAS to this Prop Pioneer.
I plan to let it stay at this version until the backup job is finished, and then I'll update it to 6.5.0. I think this will give me the "fan profiles"? I will try that with both the Silent and the Balanced settings.
Why the suggestion to update to 6.5.2Beta? Are the 'fan profiles" adressed inn that version?
