Problem with Replicate across WAN

Hi

I have a problem with backing up across the WAN using the "replicate " software"

it has been generally reliable (I only have one active job setup)- but recently I am getting a failed status - although files do seem to be copying

below is the job report - why is it failing?

it seems to be copying files - then failing on some files in the same dir

the final error code is Exit Code 12 (Error in protocol data stream)

any help gratefully received - Cheers

  • Are there anyone using these files when being replicated? If a file is modified before finishing the replication, it is normal to get "failed" error message since the original file intended to be copied/replicated has been altered.
  • ok - thanks,

I will have a look at the link

and re files being used -- maybe let me check for any other backup jobs on the server

although from the logs the files that are being shown has "failed" are JPG files - that are pretty much static content
  • OK - this is sorted now

like most problems - there where "wheels within wheels"

my attempts to diagnose and solve the problem were hampered by the fact that IE 11 does not work with netgear replicate portal (tbh I did not try compatibility mode I just used chrome)

IE would not allow me to select the file system of the NAS boxes -so I could not edit the replicated job and simply select resume from an earlier working backup

I could restart the job from scratch - but it was over 450GB big, and did get a "failed error anyway (after a couple of days copying) - which is no great surprise tbh

meanwhile I also got the seemingly very common "cannot locate the P2P local address" - so I was actually going backwards - i.e. the NAS boxes could no longer communicate to one another

I rebooted the local one to me, and got the datacentre to reboot the remote - ran a small test job (using chrome) and it worked!!!

then I edited my main job to resume form an earlier successful job (using chrome as this was not possible with IE) and it worked - copying on the delta 3 odd GB of changes
  • I am glad that its now working. :D Its good that you post what you did as reference for others.
