Problem with Seagate Backup Plus 4TB and ReadyNAS NV+
I've got an old ReadyNAS NV+ with about 3TB of storage on it. I recently purchased a Seagate Backup Plus 4TB drive to back it up. This is the first time I've connected a USB drive to the NAS with...

Try right-clicking on the share and selecting the sharing tab. Then click "advanced sharing".and then "permissions"
If the account you are using to access the share isn't listed, then click on "add" to add it.
Then select that account , and make sure it has all options (full control, change, and read) set to allow.
After that go to the security tab, select that same account, and set all options there (except special permissions) to allow.

So move it to the PC and reformat it? If not FAT32, then what? Windows 7 doesn't format EXT3 as far as I know.

Format it as NTFS, and use it in the PC. You can't connect it directly to the NAS, as it can't handle disks > 2 TB.

Thanks, I will try that.
Will I be able to use the FrontView backup feature, or will I have to find a third-party option to fully back up the NV+?

Also, I just plugged the drive into my Windows 7 PC. The Format dialog popped up and the only capacity option I have is 1.99 TB.
File system options are NTFS and exFAT.
There are different allocation size units, but if I change those, the capacity never gives me other options.

I went into Disk Management and futzed around a bit and finally got it formatted as a 4 TB drive.
I'm still hoping I can use the FrontView backup functionality on my NV+. If I can't, can anyone recommend good backup software? Hopefully something that will retain permissions and isn't too expensive. Free would be great! ;-)
