Share mode has long been EOL (End of Life) and doesn't really work any more with recent/current client OSes. It is recommended to switch to user mode: http://readynas.sphardy.com/2010/09/how-to-migrate-to-user-security-mode_4917.html
After switching to user mode you should be able to login to SMB/CIFS as the "admin" user and see e.g. the "C" share.
I suspect that after you switch to User mode you should find Time Machine starts working again.
