RAEDYNas 104 inactive Volumes
Hi,
I had not accessed my NAS for several days I tried to upload some data but my MAC couldn't find the volume?
I couldn't log in to admin and checking the front panel it just said DEAD
I rebooted and all looked like it came up OK but the volume was still missing, in admin I now have a Data-0 which appears to be my Volume and Data which is 0 in size.
The error message says 'Remove inactive volumes to use disk, Disk #1,2,3,4
How can I recover the data volumes I bought a backup several days ago but with the size of data and the fact that it's on Raid5 I haven't had chance to run it.
Please help as there are several years of photos as well as development data on there that I need to recover.

Don't. That will delete your data.

Start by downloading the full log zip file from the logs page. There should be some clues in there on what went wrong.
If you need help analyzing it, then put the full log zip into cloud storage (drop box, google drive, etc), and send me a private message (PM) with a link. Make sure the link permissions are set so anyone with the link can download. You can send a PM using the envelope icon in the upper right of the forum page.

Both data and data-0 contain your volume. They are two sections of what should be your data volume, but the OS can't figure out how to put them together into one and can't call them both data. Doing anything at all (including any more reboots) without knowing what you are doing may significantly reduce the likelihood of recovery. StephenB has successfully guided many through your situation. There is a possibility that a file or few is corrupted, but intact recovery of most is usually possible if you have patience and the volume is RAID5 (as yours is), not RAID0 or JBOD. If you've been ignoring one drive failure (knowingly or because you don't "check in" with your NAS often enough and/or have email alerts set up), then that chance goes way down if it had a second drive failure. The log will let you know your situation.
That recovery, however, may include the need to purchase rather expensive RAID recovery software and will most often require recovering the files to another device. So, hopefully, that USB drive will hold it all. It may also require that you have a Windows machine on which to run it.
