Raid configuration is set to 2 disks, but I'm only using 1 disk
I have used my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 for a few years with one drive only (and with backup to the cloud). Recently the NAS reported that the drive has errors, and now the health status says the HDD is dead...

BTW, the drive problem has come gradually, in such a way that the files and folder also gradually disappeared without me noticing this. The result: my cloud backup service has also removed the same files, assuming the files we're deleted intentionally. Since the cloud service only keeps deleted files in the archive for 30 days, they got permanently deleted before I knew there was a problem... This is why I have tried to recover my files the hard way.

The NAS doesn't do RAID-2 (actually no one does). Perhaps you were thinking "XRAID2". The "2" in XRAID2 doesn't mean 2 disks, it means the second version of XRAID. It's the default RAID on your NAS.
The NAS declared the disk dead because it had too many errors, not because of the RAID configuration.
On file recovery - Netgear offers a paid file recover service that you could try ( https://kb.netgear.com/69/ReadyNAS-Data-Recovery-Diagnostics-Scope-of-Service ). Some users here have posted sucess with ReclaiMe. You might want to clone the drive, since it might degrade further.
