With the lan set at 192.168.2.1 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 should have looked at ALL IPs in 192.168 range and should have seen 192.168.1.1,
I agree it should have connected with that subnet mask.. RAIDar uses its own multicast messages for discovery, so if multicast/broadcast isn't enabled in the router (or is blocked in PC internet security software) it won't find the NAS.

Dhcp is enabled on router.
I suggest going connecting the NAS back to the router then, and using the factory reset procedure. The process is described on page 43-44 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/RN_OS_6_Desktop_HW_UM_12Oct2015.pdf.
If you still see the funky boxes on the LCD screen when you do the reset procedure, then the next step would be to try a USB recovery. That process is here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29952/~/readynas-os-6%3A-usb-recovery-tool The NAS can be picky on the USB drives, so you might need to try more than one.

Also, noticed you mentioned usb recovery using OS6. Would the RAIDar usb recovery work also? Would rather us OS6.
