Technically they can, (and they likely would if you deleted stuff in the OS partition that you shouldn't). They've said here that they won't deny support unless there is evidence that you did damage with ssh. If you purchased on your join date, your NAS is out of warranty, so support might not be an issue anyway.

Once installed (assuming success, which is not guaranteed in your case) you can look for large log files, and delete them. If you have ReadyDLNA installed on the NAS, you can disable that, and also check with ssh that the database has been deleted. Note there is is a separate add-on that will move the ReadyDLNA database to the C drive in order to prevent it from taking up precious OS partition.
