Format NTFS External USB Errors on Win10 machine
I use an external USB drive to backup my ReadyNas daily. It's formated NTFS (by the ReadyNas). Every now and then I need a file from the drive and I take the external drive and plug it into a Win10 ...

I was thinking from the earlier posts that you were always letting Windows do the "fix".
Windows isn't supposed to need you to eject the drive anymore, but did you try that too?

That sounds like a logical next step. I'd also look at the SMART stats of the drive (acronis drive monitor is one freeware package you can use for that, though you do need to give them your email address in exchange).

Yeah, I'm kinda old school on ejecting drives using the system tray icon. I'll try reformatting in windows and see how the ReadyNas likes it.

Ok... freshly long-formatted in the windows machine. ReadyNas seems to like it (no errors). We'll see what happens after the backup tomorrow morning.

Backup completed without incident. Drive ejected properly. Moved drive to windows machine without incident.
Does the NTFS format utility in ReadyNas have a problem?
