This is not particularly helpful as rsync can obviously be used for a local backup as it was working on older firmware builds.
Agreed.

I am not sure where to go from here.
I have run some tests transferring from a ReadyNAS to a NTFS formatted USB3 Seagate Expansion HDD connected to one of the back USB ports. One large file (3.3GB) was transferred to test speeds. Transfer speeds were as follows;
Using the GUI browser to copy and paste the file: 21.1MB/s
Backup Local -> Local: 62.48MB/s
Backup Local - > Remote RSync(127.0.0.1): 19.9MB/s
Backup Local - > Remote Windows Timestamp(127.0.0.1): 14.9MB/s
is this consistent with other user's transfer speeds?
If Netgear are interested in fixing this problem I can supply logs?

I haven't benchmarked USB, but recently restored the RN102 from backup (rsync from my pro). The restore speed was about 1 TB per day, which is around 12 MB/s.

It seems from another thread that a netgear tech has done some testing
1. I ran a few tests with 2 RN102 from our lab: one on 6.2.5, the another on 6.4.2
2. I copied the exact same data to both of them : 15GB (total) - a mix of big and small files
3. I ran backup jobs on both NASes (full backup of the data volume) using the same USB 3.0 stick, NTFS formated and plugged to the rear ports
4. There was a noticeable difference between the 2 backup jobs: it took over 2 hours on 6.4.2 and around 40 minutes for the one on 6.2.5
This is the same behaviour I see. Transfer speeds of around 1.5MB/s while the GUI becomes unresponsive and the unit requires a hard reset. I have explained in my support ticket (#26576559) that at that rate it would take a month to back up the 4TB drive in my 102!

I have an incremental backup job running twice a week to a Samsung D-Stor 2 TB USB 3 external drive. Every four weeks a full backup job is run.
I have a 1.81 TB volume with 48% free space and the full backup is finished in just over 3 hours. The files stored are word and excel docs, PDF's, MP3 files and HD video files.
I am using the top back USB 3 port.

There is an issue with the NTFS driver, that will be solved in 6.5.0. On 6.5.0 RC2 I achieve 95 MB/s on RN312 and RN516, compared to 12 MB/s on 6.4.2.
