Re-Syncing

Thank you for the help yesterday with my boot problem. It is partially fixed.

Now, there is a new issues.

The machine now boots with one disk; but the blue power light pulsates (two quick blinks then pause-repeated continuously).

Does this indicate a continuing problem with the disk? Is it possible to re-sync the drives and maintain the data that is on the working drive (the disk currently in the machine)?

Thank you in advance

  • Not sure how you solved the problem you had, but presumably you have not factory defaulted the unit.
Can you now access Frontview and if so what does volume page say about the volume.
You could also look at raidar to see what it says about the volume.
  • The volume now says "degraded" and indicates RAID 1. I don't see any additional information about the volume.

It says "degraded" because there's only one disk installed.

Can you access the data? If so, back it up before you do anything else.

Can you post the SMART stats? (easiest way is to download the logs).
  • Yes, The editor won't allow me to post the full line of stats, so I have omitted the column headings in the post of the SMART stats below:

Was this accidentally duped, or does the log include the missing disk? I'm guessing accidentally duped, since the timestamps shouldn't match.

After you back up the data, try hot-inserting drive 2. It should detect the insertion and start a resync. Perhaps look at the SMART stats again during the resync.
  • No, it wasn't duped. It was copied from the smart_history file.

The disk that is currently in the NAS is in bay #2. Should I place this in bay #1 and then place the other disk in #2? I would prefer not to wipe these disks. Does resyncing wipe data?

    Thanks

I'd leave the current drive where it is. Hot-inserting a second drive should not wipe data. But update the backup first to be safe.
  • Tried this and says "rebuilding in progress" with 18 hour remaining. I'm worried that it is wiping the drives.

The time estimates are usually much too long. If you are able to access the data, then the drives are certainly not being wiped.
  • You are right. It looks like it is keeping the data. The admin page indicates the CPU is running is 153 degrees, but I think that is an error.
