ReadtNAS Duo RND2000v2 Firmware reinstall

Question

I need help, the drives keep initlising and they are good drives, I have tried resetting the NAS and even reinstalling using recovery USB but to no avail. Firmware version wont show up and I have no idea what to do

What firmware is running on the duo?
What disks are you using?

I suggest that you try powering up the duo with no disks inserted, and check the status with RAIDar.&nbsp;&nbsp;https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads

That should detect the NAS and give you a "no disks" status.

RAIDar does not show what firmware it is running and the drives are both 2TB but I have tried even a 160 gig and nothing. With no drives it shows it in RAIDar but with them in it just initilises and seems to go nowhere even after factory resetting it using inscructions i found on another site for my NAS. The drives I have tried are a 160 Seagate Barracuda 6RAB1DMB, a 2 TB Samsung HD203WI and a 2TB Seagate SV35 W1E0MQX7. When i got the drive at first as I got it second hand there were two 1TB drive which where Seagate and a Samsung but when I tried wiping them it seemed to not initilise again but before wiping it worked with them but I couldnt access the admin panel

One question I have is whether you have a Duo v2 or if you have a Duo.&nbsp; The Duo v2 says "Duo v2" on the front panel.&nbsp; A Duo says "Duo" on the front panel, but might have a v2 label somewhere else.&nbsp; RAIDar should also identify the model correctly (with no disks installed).

The boot menu instructions are a bit different for the two models, we can get you to the correct hardware manual once we know for certain what you have.&nbsp;

You might also try wiping the disks again, and try powering up with only one disk installed.&nbsp; That will set up more quickly because there is no RAID syncing that needs to be done.

The front just says ReadyNAS Duo but on the bottom for the model info it says RND2000 v2 so I am not sure. I tried one drive last night, the 160 gig but it didn't seem to work properly

As I said, the Duo might have a v2 label somewhere else.&nbsp; The front is what matters.&nbsp; You have a Duo (v1).&nbsp; Netgear stopped shipping your NAS in Nov 2011.&nbsp; It runs 4.1.x firmware, the most recent (and final) firmware is 4.1.16.&nbsp;&nbsp;https://kb.netgear.com/000038792/RAIDiator-Version-4-1-16-Sparc

One important limitation is that your NAS cannot handle disks that are &gt; 2 TB in size.&nbsp; Another is that it's SMB support is limited to SMB 1.0 (which is being deprecated by Microsoft).

Well, the system should install fairly quickly on a single disk.&nbsp; You might try using one of the 1 TB ones (either zeroing it first, or doing the factory default using the boot menu).&nbsp; RAIDar should detect the NAS after you power up, though there might be a couple of minutes when the Duo is too busy to respond.

After the install, you access the admin web ui with http://nas-ip-address/admin (using the real IP address of the NAS).&nbsp; There will be a security exception you need to click through.&nbsp; The username is admin, the default password is netgear1.
