You are responding a 2 year-old thread (and I suspect the bug being referred to has already been fixed).
There is no need to use SSH to force a rescan. Just use the rescan button in the web ui.

MKVs will work (at least it does with my devices). Some MKVs have header compression, and that can cause issues with some devices.
If you aren't up on SSH then I suggest we should avoid that approach Try the debug toggle (sparc add-on in my link above) and look at the log after you rescan.
