ReadyNAS 102 on 6.1.8 rsync password config fails #23712613
Trying to enable rsync password protection fails randomly on different shares.
Firmware 6.1.8
First attempt to create a user name and password to protect rsync on a share failed with unknown user.
Created user in user accounts with same name and password. This was not a requirement on the Duo systems.
Some shares allowed this new user and password, but others fail with "unknown user name" error when saving changes.
Shares are identical and created at the same time.
Had trouble with old Duo and thought that maybe things had gotten better.
Also can't NFS mount any shares

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI hear when NFS mounting shares on OS6 you need to specify the volume name.
I mean it should be ip_address/volume/share.. example "192.168.1.200:/data/Videos"
Can you try this if you haven't already? - mrdAspirantI had tried that, as well as the nfsv4 version of the mount and nothing works.
Thanks... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave a look at this: https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/network-file-system.html
Do you have nfs-common installed on your Ubuntu machine?
You can check by doing
# dpkg -l | grep nfs-common
If it's not installed, install it
# sudo apt-get install nfs-common
Then try mounting the share again.
Installing nfs-common worked for me.
Note: I tested on 6.1.9-RC11 on a 102. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI can't reproduce your Rsync issue on 6.1.9-RC11.
I can enable password protection for shares and configure a username and password for Rsync that is not the same as a user in user accounts.
I would need remote access to your NAS to investigate further. - mrdAspirantI do have nfs-common installed so that does not seem to be my issue.
On the rsync problem, I am able to enable a password on some shares but not others and they are all identical. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of nfs-common do you have installed?
I have 1.2.5-3ubuntu3.1
$ dpkg -l | grep nfs-common
ii nfs-common 1:1.2.5-3ubuntu3.1 NFS support files common to client and server - mrdAspirantI don't see any option to download or install 6.1.9. Can you provide the instructions?
Thanks - mrdAspirantNevermind. I found it in the forums and tried upgrading. It did not resolve any of the issues so I am now trying a factory default reset.
- mrdAspirantOK... A factory reset after installing the 6.1.9 build allowed me to create shares and add rsync credentials to them as I created them I still can't get NFS to work though???
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSo you are trying 10.10, 11.10 and 14.04.
What command do you use to try to mount the NFS share and what error do you get?
