ReadyNAS 104 - No volumes after adding drives

Inserted two new drives in a REadyNAS 104 unit. Existing config was 2 drives in a RAID1 format. Once drives were inserted, NAS indicating status of resyncing. We had a power failure and now the NAS will not boot cleanly with either the two original RAID 1 drives or all 4 drives inserted. Hangs at around 42%. Removing the drives allows the device to boot to safe mode. Obviously there is data on the RAID1 volumes that i need.

  • The RAID1 no longer exists.  The NAS would have first converted to a 3-drive RAID5 and then expanded to 4 drives.  Somewhere in that process, with the sync incomplete, the power failure occurred.  So you're in limbo without a valid volume.

The best step from that point is to factory default and restore from backup.  But you obviously have no backup.

You are at a volume recovery point.  You can either contact ReadyNAS for paid recovery support or try software like ReclaiMe, whihc you can download free and see if it'll do the job before you buy it.  But to use ReclaiMe, you need a way t hook up the drives to the PC running the software.  It would be helpful to know at which point in the expansion you were to know how many drives you need to hook up.
