Readynas 1100 completely dead
My readynas 1100 is completely dead. No lights and no fans start up when pressing the power button. Tried replacing the power supply but nothing happens either. I do have a ReadyNAS Ultra 4 (Rea...

Hello djxtc,
Welcome to the community!
ReadyNAS 1100 is a sparc-based while the ReadyNAS Ultra 4 is intel-based. You cannot use the disks from 1100 on any Intel-based chassis expecting to have data intact, these two do not have the same architecture and OS. I do hope you have full back up of the data as you have already inserted the RAID disks to another chassis, possible data loss.
Your best choice is either get a data recovery service or find a sparc-based ReadyNAS and insert the disks to it, they should be inserted in the same order, that is important if you want to keep data intact.

thanks for the quick reply, i just tried to boot it up with the disks inside so there shouldnt be any data loss.
is it possible to mount the disks in a x86 linux machine?

Hello djxtc,
I really hope so. Disks order should not be mixed up too.
No you cannot, the ultra 4 is intel/x86 based, the ReadyNAS 1100 isn't.
If you are using just 2 disks which is automatically in mirror when in XRAID, you might want to check this link: http://www.r-tt.com/free_linux_recovery/
Here a discussion too about recovery data from a 4-bay sparc-based NAS: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/ReadyNas-NV-died-recovery-data/m-p/1054843#M104835

Yes. I think JennC misunderstood that question.
She correctly says you can't migrate to an x86 ReadyNAS. However, you can mount the raid array in an x86 linux systems (assuming you can connect enough disks). There's an old guide here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=306

There is a procedure that support can attempt using an OS6 NAS. You may wish to get e.g. an RN314 and enquire with support about the cost of a data recovery attempt.
The procedure is described in ReadyNAS: Migrating disks from RAIDiator to OS 6
