thanks for the quick reply, i just tried to boot it up with the disks inside so there shouldnt be any data loss.
is it possible to mount the disks in a x86 linux machine?

I really hope so. Disks order should not be mixed up too.
No you cannot, the ultra 4 is intel/x86 based, the ReadyNAS 1100 isn't.
If you are using just 2 disks which is automatically in mirror when in XRAID, you might want to check this link: http://www.r-tt.com/free_linux_recovery/
