Readynas 204 reboot message phy_ethtools_set_wol+4
Hi,
I hope someone can help.
I select Restart in my ReadyNas control panel to try to refresh my DLNA cache to pick up some new items which hadn't appeared.
After rebooting, the RN204 was not accessible on the network and it had the message phy_ethtools_set_wol+4 on its front screen.
I left it about 20 minutes but nothing happened and it didn't come back so I powered it off and back on again and the same message has appeared on the front screen phy_ethtools_set_wol+4.
I am unable to access the RN204 via the network and don't know what to do. I can't find any reference to this code in the forums or on the internet.
Does anyone know what this means and how I can get the ReadyNas working again as I am worried about my data.
Thanks
Rob
I believe we already fixed this bug -- you are using 6.4.2. You're a major version and about 2 minor versions behind.

I suggest contacting support at my.netgear.com (even if they charge).

Hi StephenB,
Thank you for your reply.
I checked my support, it has just lapsed, so I was about to pay but then I had a thought.
One thing I noticed is that it was quite hot as it is very hot at the moment.
I turned off the power. Removed the disks. Let them cool down. Put them back in. Powered up - and - phew ... working again.
Whether it was the heat or whether it just got confused, I am not sure but thank heavens it seems to be okay now.
Thank you for your help though, most appreciated.

Can you send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

Hi Kohdee,
Thank you very much for mentioning this.
It appears that my ReadyNAS doesn't check properly for updates so I assumed it was up to date. Clicking on check for updates makes the spinny thing go round for about 10 seconds and then stop. That is something that I will need to investigate separately.

Rob

Hello,
I investigated and found that the DNS settings were causing it not to find the updates.
I have applied the update 6.5.1 and the ReadyNas rebooted and now I have the message (null)+0 on the display.
It seems one problem leads to another so I hope that this is simple to fix.
Regards,
Rob

The (null)+0 is probably coming from the VPN service that ReadyNAS makes to communicate with ReadyCLOUD and other NETGEAR services, unless it comes from an app you have installed. We should be addressing this in a future release so the VPN service stops spitting this out.

Hi Kohdee,
Thank you for your updates, that is very helpful and informative.
At least it's all sorted now :-)
