ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
The unit shows "no IP Adress" even though the ethernet port shows activity and the router show connection.. When I initially tried to shut the unit down it said that it was shutting down and "Goodbye...

Neither ReadyCloud or RAIDar can see it. The router network map doesn't show the 204 as a connected device even though it and the 204 show an active ethernet connection. I guess that the 204 did not request an address or the request never was sent.

Hi Tom2B,
Was your ReadyNAS configured with a Static IP address before? or was it DHCP? Are you okay with removing the drives (mark or label all of them) from your system to check if the chassis is okay?
Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards,
BrianL

Hello BrianL,
The IP address was assigned through DHCP. I can remove the drives and can label. If I shut the NAS down before removing the drives, is there something that I should do when I power it back up?

Hi Tom2B,
Nothing else. If the unit boots up, acquires an IP address from your network and shows up in the RAIDar utility, then chassis is okay (you can try the other ethernet port too). But if not, more likely its a hardware fault.
Kind regards,
BrianL

Hi BrianL,
I pulled the drives and rebooted. It booted up to the point of complaining about no drives but the NAS could not be detected by either RAIDar or ReadyCloud. It doesn't show up in the list of devices that the router is talking to either. It still did not completely shut down the display was showing something close to "do exit 890".

This happened to me recently and an OS re-install (using the Boot Menu) helped me out as it resets the I.P. settings.
So do this:-
To access the boot menu:
1. Power off your storage system.
2. Using a straightened paper clip, press and hold the Reset button.
3. Press the Power button.
The system powers on.
4. Continue to press the Reset button until the status display screen shows a boot menu message.
5. Press the Backup button to scroll through boot mode options.
The status display screen shows the current boot mode option.
6. When the status display screen shows the boot mode that you need, O.S. REINSTALL in your case, press and release the Reset button to confirm your boot menu selection.
The system boots in the selected boot mode.
O.S. reinstall does not delete your data, it will also reset the admin user password to the default which is ...... password (case sensitive)
Once you have booted try RAIDar again, this should now show an I.P. address, if it is incorrect, edit using RAIDar "Admin Page" option using admin as login and password as the password
