ReadyNAS 214 - Backup/Reset/Restore

I have a client with a nearly new ReadyNAS 214. He's had several issues with files being backed up to Amazon Cloud then deleted randomly off the device. He's worked with Netgear Support, and the Snapshots feature has recovered most of the missing files. Now we want to backup ALL the data, factory reset the device, and re-initialize the hardware all over again on the newest 6.7.5 firmware.

Question: He has Snapshots turned on for the relevant Shares. If I turn on 'Make Snapshots viewable' can I effectively "backup" those Snapshots to an external USB drive and then Restore back to the "new" (re-initialized) system?

TIA

If the USB drive is formatted as BTRFS you can "clone" the share to the backup drive if you have shell access.  That copies the full subvolume (including snapshots).  You wouldn't have to make them viewable.

Otherwise, no.  If you make them viewable, you won't have enough disk space (and there's no practical way to restore them anyway).

For example, a 1 TB share with 99 snapshots would require 100 TB of space on the USB drive.
