Your system will have two RAID groups - the original 2x8TB and a new 2x6TB group. These are concatenated into one volume, but as far as RAID management goes they are independent. When you replaced the first disk, only the original 2x8TB group could be synced. When you replaced the second disk, the system resyncs the 2x8TB group again, and then syncs the 2x6 TB group as the second step.
