You're best off backing up your data. I would recommend using a redundant RAID level in case of disk failure. Personally I created a RAID-6 volume then turned X-RAID back on.

Question here is not about backup, it's about resilient.
I'm in a situation where my entire 15TB volume is frozen. If this was 3 x 5TB volumes, is it likely only one of them might be frozen? Could I improve the potential resilience of my data by splitting it into multiple volumes? It's convenient to have one big chunk of data but it is an eggs in one basket scenario. If just splitting it in half might help, I'll consider it.
A lot of my data is archival, never changing, backups. Is there an advantage to keeping that on a separate volume to rapidly changing daily use stuff?
It's likely going to take me 7-10 days to verify, rebuild NAS and restore all the data on my corrupted volume. If a smaller volume meant I could have just deleted the bad volume and recreated it I'd be in a much better place.
