Readynas 316 extremely slow after update to 6.4.2
Upgraded firmware from 6.2 to 6.4.2
Backing up via USB 3.0 to an external hard drive has become dramatically slower (10 hours originally, now takes 29+ hours) for a equivalently sized backup.
Checked other threads (including https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/Readynas-102-extremely-slow-after-update-to-6-4-1/m-p/1015175#M99357 ) i tried turning SMB on and off ...
Is this a known bug? it makes the function virtually unusable...

Hi
I have a 102 which up to 6.2.5 was running perfectly, last November I updated the firmware to 6.4.0 and since then nothing but problems.
i am now on 6.4.2 and like you my backup which used to take 1 hour is now taking 4 hours.
I am not and never have run AV and my latest most helpful 'advice' from Netgear is that I shouldn't use this unit for business.....to which I replied that this unit is at home and of the 150gb of data on it only about 25gb is some business and after all data is data, it's 1's and 0's, the unit doesn't discriminate data. In any event it should be working properly full stop.
i have virtually given up hope that I will get any useful advice or help from Netgear.
Looking at another solution for dealing with my data.
good luck.

I don't use USB backup, so I haven't monitored its performance. I did see a significant slowdown for CIFS access with 6.4.x. Eventually I decided to do a factory reset with 6.4.2, and performance greatly improved. But I don't know if that would help your situation or not.

but the factory reset would delete all of my stored data (4TB) ... correct?

YorkBoy, the logs attached to your case indicate that there may be a problem with the USB disk or a problem on your network. We advised updating to 6.4.2, but you held off for the final release and have not provided fresh logs since 6.4.2 was released so we are unable to confirm if the problems present in older 6.4.x are still there in your case on 6.4.2. This is a problem that via support would require escalation to a higher level, but they would need up to date logs and a contract in place. You mentioned that the situation was affecting your business, so I pointed out that the device you purchased was targeted at the home user and not designed for the higher workload typically seen in business use cases.

In reply to mdgm above............
Yes the unit is used for business......but only for work which I carry out at home. I have a reliable server in my office and I simply have some current projects on my 102, that is roughly 25GB out of 150GB. The 102 is only used by a single user, me. It is not heavily used being used to store personal data at home. So please can we drop this opinion that I have the wrong unit. In any event, apart from intensive usage which business machines could encounter, data is data, it's 1's and 0's. The 102 should be quite capable of handling all I throw at it.
Second and inportantly something which continues to be ignored, irrespective of my use everything worked until 6.4.0, why is it that this is conveniently forgotten.
In the last couple of days I have gone to my 102, securely backed up data, 143.61GB and have run WD diagnostics on both the backup USB 3.0 hard drives. Both had no issues. Overnight one drive took 4.5 hours to perform a backup, the other is currently running and from what I can see , 3 hours having passed and we're roughly 2/3rds of the way there, it's also going to be 4.5 hours for a complete backup. Up to 6.4.0 when I was running 6.2.5 these backups took slightly over an hour. Given this why is it that Netgear continue to have the opinion that it's me or my setup?
In addition using the front USB socket which I used to use for transferring data continues to freeze the 102 and only a power down will rectify this. Again up to 6.4.0 this functioned perfectly?
Netgear have seen my logs and have commented on dropped packets, this has been resolved.
Tell me, if your car was recalled to deal with an issue and on collecting your car it ran badly would you be happy to wait four months for a solution? My unit became troublesome following a recommended firmware update in November, this is now the end of February and still nothing in sight.
Any more straws you would like to grasp?
