Do you have ssh access enabled?

No. I can only get in via Https Web interface. But it won't let me enable anything on there.

I was wondering if it was enabled before.
One cause of the behavior you are seeing is a filling OS partition (not the data volume, but the 4 GB linux partition).
If it will let you delete the logs, try that next (both system and backup logs). DON'T try to download them - that could brick the NAS.
If that helps, then enable ssh (install enablerootssh from here: http://www.readynas.com/?p=4203), then look at the OS fullness with
df . -i
df . -h
If you can't delete the logs (or if it doesn't help) then I suggest either
(a) backing up the data and doing a factory reset
or
(b) contacting netgear support (support.netgear.com). They might charge.
Someone from Netgear who is active here might also offer to look at your NAS remotely.

One of the other "strange" things it was doing of late was that when you went into Logs it always said "No logs exist". It still says that now.
