After the fix for Time Machine with Maverick and 6.1.4, I noticed the exact same problem as you describe. I thought it was related to SMB/afp. But this problem occurred in both file sharing protocol. By the way is there any advice to not open APF and SMB at the same time ? It was like this with 4.2.x and I wonder if the same advice exists for 6.1.x.
But back to your pbolem I read this :

As surprising as it seems, the problem probably relies inside the Finder itself !!
I didn't erased the plis because i don't want to loose the settings of all the windows, but you can try to open another folder or change the folder is organized to give ti a try.
I don't know for sure if my problem is the same as describe on these pages because when I tried to copy even 3 file of 2MB each to the readynas, it froze for sometimes for long as 1-2 minute.
Some others said that there is a problem with Mavericks's default protocol being SMB2 and this causes problems. (http://www.macg.co/os-x/2013/10/maveric ... -maj-77609). But the update explains that it could be related to the permissions : https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... 0R5-WTGIrM .
I hope on of the like could help you figure it out.
