ReadyNas 6.2 (NAS locks up entirely)
EDIT BY MODERATOR: Please see the post at the end of the thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=456217#p456217
I guess i am not the only one this is happening to!
everything worked fine for 6.1.9 (except for my root at 99% problem last month)
once I updated, I transferred aprox 2 gigs of information it locks up every time
all apps are working fine.
as a business owner i have come to the conclusion (with the amount of problems i have been having) ReadyNas is not meant for a reliable means of backing up seems majority of the fixes are "back everything up and factory reset!" I think that answer is as good as telling someone with computer problems to hit there computer a few times and see if it works.
now i have gone to support many times yes they are quite helpful but only within 90 days of purchase of the unit! then they insist that i pay for a extension of that support.... i have 3 IBM servers and when there hardware fails (one little problem with a driver one year later) they back up the reseller in making sure my system is back up and running within 48 hours (no they are not leased or have a protection plan)
If it wasent for the guys in the forums i would have beaten the system with a bat (please see Office space the movie)... sorry for the rant just truly frustrated with the system

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt appears most/all of you have USB devices attached to your systems. Can you try removing them and see if the crash still occurs?
It would also be great if you could connect via SSH and run `journalctl -af` until the system crashes. It's quite possible that we'd get some useful output that wouldn't make it to disk. - SilverstreakAspirantI am willing to try out beta software and hope there are no more crashes/freezes.
mdgm - Yes, the NAS box has been running without a problem for about 17-18 hours, with no USB drive connected. Drive spin down is enabled and inactivity counter set at 45 minutes. Snapshots are created every 24 hours. So far so good. I intend keeping the box powered on with 6.2.2. for at least another 12-24 hours to check before attempting to flash the beta.
Could this a problem with the USB driver? - yajdamAspirant

By "USB devices" are you also including UPS data cables? Because I only bought my UPS after the lockups started, to eliminate possible power spikes.
Anyway, I'm running 'journalctl -af' with the UPS data cable plugged in until next lockup. After that, I'll disconnect the UPS and repeat the process.
Thanks! - SilverstreakAspirantRight. So, data backed up and 6.3.3 flashed. Now fingers crossed. I'll report back if I see any lockups or unusual behaviour.
EDIT - Found a touch panel issue within minutes of loading 6.3.3. :( Heading over to the relevant thread to report. - DrDSPAspirantSo I might be the first one with good news to report here.
After upgrading to the 6.2.3-T1652 beta last weekend, my RN104 has been stable. No lockups. It's been up for 8 days straight now, when previously it wouldn't make it more than 4 hours or so.
I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the factory reset that I did prior to the beta upgrade might have helped. Also, I'm not sure if others are having the same issue that I had, but my unit would only lockup or freeze when it was idle. It never locked-up while I was actively using it.
Anyway, hope this information helps somehow. I also I hope that I don't jinx myself by writing this success post. - guenterp62AspirantPNAS 104, upgraded to Beta 3, on Jan, 23rd, system ran until Jan,24th approx 6:30 PM
Logs sent - yajdamAspirantReadyNAS 6.2.3-T1672 alot worse than T1652!
In less than 24 hours, the RN10400 locked up 7 times, until the last one when not even 'kernel panic=1' was able to reboot the system.
Most of the lockups happened while it was idle.
'journalctl -af' showed no relevant information.
Going back to T1652 until next beta comes out.
Logs send - jzeeviAspirantI ran 1672 (Beta3) with the requested logging and it failed fairly quickly after going idle (I was doing some data copy first). Logs have been sent in.
I also ran journalctl -af in an SSH session and captured the output, although to my eye it looked unremarkable.
Simultaneously, I ran a bash script in another SSH session to capture the dmesg output every 30 seconds in case something spit up there, however, nothing out of the ordinary occurred. I *do* get the advantage of being able to tell within a 30 second window of when the machine crashed which may be helpful for the log analyzers. :-)
I then downgraded to 6.2.0 and my NAS104 has been up for 12+ hours while idle. For me, that's a new record. More data as it becomes available. - guenterp62AspirantWhere can i download os 6.2.0 for a downgrade?
