Actually I think what I'll do initially is remove the Seagate and run the NAS unmirrored for a few weeks to see if the lockups go away. I don't want to spend another 50 quids on a new drive then have to replace the ReadyNAS too.
Since I've already had a Seagate fail this year it's likely that the other one is going too; although I'm a bit surprised the Seagate drives have failed so quickly....it's not like the NAS gets hammered since it's mainly only used for backup. 3 years to failure with such light use is very poor.
