Actually the NAS spends quite a bit of time powered down...probably 50% of the last 3 years it's been powered off. Also I've got power saving setup so the disks should spin down when I'm not accessing the NAS. If I decide to replace the drive I don't think I'll be buying another Seagate.
If it is the drive, I'm still a bit puzzled why the NAS would lockup though....I thought the whole point of a RAID setup like this was that drive failures can be dealt with gracefully. Do you think that it's less stable because it's a consumer level product rather than something indented for business use?
