Readynas Duo ReadyDLNA Folder Issue

My rubbish ReadyNAS duo is not doing what it’s supposed to do yet again!

Can someone please tell me why my Netgear Readynas Duo's DLNA/UPNP function is not working properly?

I have it all setup properly, with my directory's selected. The software says its scan is in progress and complete, but it only ever scans as far as the first two main directories on the selected shared drive.

I'm using the following shared drive, set up for each film like this example:

v:\videos <---is the main shared drive
v:\videos\kung fu <---action is the folder
v:\videos\kung fu\drunken master [1994] <---film folder
v:\videos\kung fu\drunken master [1994]\drunken master [1994].divx <---film

I have readydlna enabled, with the share set to 'videos', and content set to Video only. When I apply my settings the nas device begins to scan the directories but only gets as far as the first two which were in my case were:

\videos\action (including all sub folders and films fine)
\videos\adventure\ (including all sub folders and films fine)

But it’s missing about eight different main directories, which are named as other genres; plus its missing all the film directories and films.

This is rubbish, I have my other two QNAP NAS devices setup like this using twonky server services and they work perfectly fine.

Why does QNAP's twonky software work so well in comparison and netgears ReadyDLNA is just so rubbish?

Netgear really need to re-evaluate their software development team, as they clearly can’t get it right. They also need to stop using their un-volunteering customers as beta testers while they turn out crap software at our time, money and expense.

  • I'm having the same problem. But my rescan Button doesn't work. It is not activ. I've sorted my music (FLAC files) in Thisted way:
A (whith All artists thatchers start with A), B,C,D...... And so on. The Strange thing is when I get to S it only shows app. 9 Artists. Where are the rets and what about folder T - Z?

This problem is both my iPad using PlugPlayer and my Oppo BDP93.

I also notest that if a folder (read album) contains more than 9 or 10 tracks they are shown in alphabetically order, not in the order they should.

    Any suggestions?
  • i also had this issue accessing my library from my AVR (Denon 4310). as i ripped music, added tags, etc. (null)s were appearing everywhere on my media server. artists, albums, folders, etc. this was most prevalent on sountracks/various catalogs.

i performed a 'rescan' of my NAS (Ultra 4), and the (null)s are gone from my AVR's GUI. hopefully this fixes the issue, but i'm not sure what is actually causing this to happen. i.e. i added an artists's cd, everything showed up fine on the front end. i ripped another disc, and aok. i ripped a 3rd disc, and the artist changed to (null) but the 3 cd's for that artist appeared ok.
  • Is this issue fixed? I should have research this NAS before buying it...I wanted this for a Media Server but if it can't do DLNA then i should take it back...WTF!
  • Re 4/5/2011 2:58 post : this was not an issue with the ReadyNAS. this was most likely a Denon issue. i no longer use the Denon as a media server (for more than 1 reason), i'm using Sonos which is fantastic, plus my Droid phone now has the Sonos Controller app. i have since ripped my entire catalog of CD's and am enjoying music throughout my house. i highly recommend the ReadyNAS.

Netgear's DLNA is flakey, that's the long and short of it.

I've installed Twonky Server, works great. $20, which I'm not happy about, but seeing as this has been an issue for quite some time with no end in sight, it was either Twonky or return the unit. To tell you the truth, I was on the fence with that one. Came close to returning it, I was so unhappy with it.

Wait until you try and write 200,000 small files to it, watch what happens. My backups take 24 hours for 40G.

  • I have also had problems with ReadyDLNA and after reading some of the feedback thought I would try Twonky - installed the latest version but am having similar problems with this (not scanning all files)

I start with a single entry in the web interface called 'Video' (which is not a share on my ReadyNAS Duo??) and have set the content sharing to point to a folder with video files in it, but not all the video files are appearing when I browse from the TV?

When I try and 'browse' the folder structure on the ReadyNAS I do not see all the folders??

Which version of TwonkyMedia is compatible with the ReadyNAS Duo/Firmware 4.1.8, anyone know?

I have managed to stream _some_ video files but it keep dropping off the network - my media device is a Sony Bravia KDL-40W5500 and the TwonkyServer keeps disappearing...

    Thanks

    Chris
  • What is a "Denon" issue? I am using the software that came with the ReadyNAS Duo v2 (RAIDar v5.3.3 and Dashboard 1.0.... ) and having no luck seeing accurate content on the DLNA devices.). There's a "rescan" button on RAIDar which has no effect, and no update database button on RAIDar or Dashboard. Anyone have any suggestions for how to update the database?
  • Interesting I've got the same issue, I have scoured the interwebs only to find a large amount of threads like this that go un-answered. Any updates?

    This thread is dead.

Plus there more than one issue in it, and references to both twonky and readydlna.

You should start your own thread describing more precisely what your issue is (devices involved, software involved, specific symptoms, etc).
