With no drives installed, does RAIDar show a "No disks" status? If so, the hardware is probably fine.
There is no configfuration data stored in the hardware. So if you simply remove the partitions on the drives using a PC or use the Factory Default option of the boot menu: How-do-I-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-ReadyNAS-Duo-NV-NV-X6-or-600 , you'll be back at square one except that any OS updates you have performed will still be there.
If you need to recover any data from the drives, then you need to say so before you factory default, as all will be lost.
