thank you. that's how I got to learn that it might need an os reinstall
make sure when you chose os reinstal to confirm choice by presing reset button briefly then os reinstal will start it dosnt take long in my case it took 5 min
I have tried several times to do an OS reinstall but so far I've had no luck at all.
I can not reach frontview with the corrupted root drive so I hold the power button until the duo shuts down.
Then I hold the reset button and press the power.
The power light flashes rapidly as the duo starts up.
the disc leds come on for about 2 seconds about 12 seconds into the boot.
then they go off. thats when I release the reset button.
I do not want to hold the reset button longer because I dont want to do a factory default reset.
am I missing a step? did i misunderstand the instructions?

o perform an OS reinstall or factory reset:
- Power off your system.
- Using a straightened paper clip, press and hold the Reset button
- ReadyNAS X6/600: the pinhole is on the back in the lower left corner.
- ReadyNAS Duo v1 / NV / NV+ v1: the pinhole is next to the USB port in the back:
Duo v1:
NV+ v1:
- Press and release the Power button to power on the system.
- To perform an OS reinstall, continue to hold the Reset button until all Disk LEDs flash once, after about 5 seconds, and then release the button.
This should do it
