ReadyNAS Duo v2. Cannot see "auto" user shares via web management console.

I have our NAS connected to our DC via LDAP, so it is able to pull user permission info from it.  I have always created or deleted shares from the NAS via the web managment console, and then assigned the permissions via an Explorer session to the share and right clicking the security settings.  What I have noticed is that when a users browses to the root of the NAS, in addition to seeing whatever shares they have been granted access to, they can also see a folder that is named after their domain user name.  I had not been too concerned with this but thought it wierd since I did not create it, I figure it is automatically creating this.  Fine, but how can I set usage quotas or permissions on these shares?

Thanks

  • Hi ITsomething,

These shares are what you call "Home shares". Unfortunately, setting user or share quotas is unavailable for this model. You can check the latest user manual available for ReadyNAS v2.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Kind regards,

This is described briefly in the software manual on page 47: http://www.readynas.com/download/documentation/UM/RAIDiator5-3_Home_SW_en_Nov711.pdf

When you create a new user, a private home share is created for that user. This private home share is visible only to the that user and the system administrator.

The other ReadyNAS platforms have configuration controls to prevent these shares from being created, or to set a quota on them.  I don't own a v2, but I don't believe that feature ever made it into the v2 firmware.
