ReadyNAS Duo v2 loads wrong firmware (4.1.16 SPARC instead of RAIDiator 5.x ARM)
Hello, I own a ReadyNAS Duo v2 (model RND2000 v2). The device always loads firmware RAIDiator 4.1.16 (SPARC) instead of the correct RAIDiator 5.x ARM. I have already tried the following:
- Using completely cleaned disks (diskpart clean + convert mbr)
- USB reinstall procedure with RAIDiator-arm-5.3.11.bin (holding the reset/backup button for 15–30 seconds)
- RAIDar detects the NAS, but it still loads 4.1.16 and does not accept the ARM firmware.
I believe the internal bootloader is corrupted or flashed with the wrong SPARC version. Could you please advise if:
- There is an official USB recovery tool to restore the ARM firmware
- Or if a reflash in service/lab is required.
Thank you for your support, Davide

Then your Duo is not really a V2 and cannot run OS5.x. Netgear really messed up with the naming on the Duo and NV+ V2. They had previously used a "v2" (normally lower case v) designation on a sticker to indicate a minor hardware change in the original Duo and NV+ lines (which we refer to here as a "V1", though that was never part of their official names). Much later, they came out with the official "V2" lines, which were a completely different architecture. This has confused buyers of used equipment ever since, as it has you. Sellers who were not the original owners may also be confused.
The "real" V2 says "ReadyNAS V2" on the front. Any other labeling is immaterial. On a Duo, the original (aka V1) also has a recess for the power plug and a fan less than the full width of the unit where the V2 has no recess and a larger fan.

Thank you very much for your clear explanation and support. I finally understood that my unit is a Duo V1 (SPARC), and now it is working again with RAIDiator 4.1.16. Your guidance helped me solve the confusion and bring the NAS back to life. I really appreciate the time and effort you took to clarify this issue.
