ReadyNas Duo Vs 1 Seagate Disks
Our Disk 1 Seagate 250GB disk has died and we have to replace it. Disk 2 is still ok. Can we replace this with a bigger disk (ie 1 TB), or does it have to be another 250gb?

After updating from 4.1.6 to 4.1.15 the new disk has been recognised and the volume is currently resyncing.

Thanks so much Stephen, much appreciated. We'll go and get one now!

I recommend NAS-purposed drives (WDC Red or Seagate IronWolf).

We have the Seagate Barracuda at the moment, we rang a supplier and they said they had a 1TB in the Seagate, they didn't actually say what it was. I'll get my boss to see if they have the IronWolf when he gets there. Thanks

Hello JanDandridge,
Expanding the volume with an old firmware is a bit hard and risky. The latest is already 4.1.15, by the way.
I suppose you have XRAID configured on the NAS? If you have an old firmware, you may need to upgrade it but before doing so, please back up the data while you still can access them as it may be best to factory reset after inserting the disks that you would like to use
Regards,

Hi Jenn,
I don't know if we have XRAID configured on the NAS, as I don't know what that means. We've been chatting to "mgdm" in messages, but unfortunately, it's a couple of days between answers from him and we aren't getting very far! We don't have a back up for our ReadyNas, as the back up died a while back and I've been suggesting to the boss to replace it, but it hasn't been done. "mgdm" also suggested in the the middle of last year to look at upgrading our system, but that hasn't happened yet either. We got a 1TB disk to replace the 250gb that it said was dead, but it is still coming up with an x for disk 1 and a tick for disk 2, so putting a new disk in hasn't changed anything. "mgdm" was going to look at getting in remotely to help us, but that was a few days ago and it appears that he hasn't read my last few messages. Not sure what to do now! Our firmware is 4.1.6
