2trees, did you confirm that you have a v1?
The default passŵord for the v1 is netgear1, for the v2 it is password.
I'll assume you have a v1, I'd suggest you factory default the unit:

It's described on pages 15-16 of the manual(link above)
When you factory default the unit will lose its fixed IP address and will try to obtain an ip,address from a dhcp server or will set an IP address of 192.168.168.168. You will need to consider this when reconnecting to the NAS.
