There is a known issue at the moment with anti-virus. If you disable that, does that resolve your problem?

tried it but I'm still constantly getting disconnected. Even mid file transfer. I'm many times unable to save files from both mac and windows computers because the server is no longer available when I'm ready to save

You are getting a lot of dropped packets. You could try changing ethernet cables, try a different port on your router/switch etc.

Is this a straight ethernet connection (all the way to the PCs) or is there something else on the path (wifi or powerline)?
