I enabled SSH. It does not respond once the device stalls. When it did allow a connection the terminal crashed after briefly showing a welcome message.

I think you will need paid support for this.
Did you try booting up in "read-only" mode? If that is stable, you could update (or make) a backup.

Raidar doesn't find anything.
I attempted to update to the new OS release but after 3 reboot messages I gave up. I did not try to update in read only mode, though.

Hello C_Ras,
On a Read Only mode the NAS cannot be configure in any way but it should be detected on the raidar. The purpose is to have access to the NAS to copy the data , to have an option to reset and reconfigure the NAS from scratch then transfer back the data.

The device is in a remote location. We'll be pulling it out and transferring it to our main offices where there will be possibilities for continued troubleshooting. The first will be the suggestion of booting to online to see if it's stable.
