Well if the boot menu works you may wish to run the memory test twice.
USB Boot Recovery doesn't touch the disks. All that does is overwrites the firmware on the flash.
Do you recall which firmware you were running?

I was running 4.1.1.4 on the system. I attempted to do a USB recovery. I followed the procedure, it appeared to load the image from USB and then shutdown. I hit the power to come back online and still the same flashing power light. No hard drives lit up. The LED guide is pointing to Memory, or Recovery (which I just attempted) or Power supply. The power supply is brand new from Netgear so I'm hoping/guessing it's no that? Seems odd my ram would just give up on me, but maybe worth just replacing anyway. Not sure what else to do.

It is a process of elimination to try different things.
There is also the option to get a new ReadyNAS e.g. RN314 and follow the procedure here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29876
