RN-524X Power Supply Part Suppliers

My RN-524x AC Adapter doesn't provide 12V to the NAS.  The  adapter indicates P/N:332-10934-01, Model:2ABU120F, Input: 100-240V ~50/60Hz, 2.0A MAX, Output + 12V--10A. The pin diagram shows Pin-1 12V, Pin-2 12V, Pin-3 and Pin-4 GND, plus Shield GND.

 

I couldn't find this type of adapter from the web.  I would appreciate to know where to purchase this type of adapter.  

 

  • When looking at power supplies with the 4-pin connector, be aware that not all use the same pin-out.  All Synology models that use a 4-pin power supply have the same pin-out, and you may have better luck searching for that.  There are several models available on Amazon, though not all are 10A.

     

    StephenB​ obviously intended to say to check that it's rated at at least 10A, not 2A.  Be especially warry if the seller's photos "conveniently" hide the power rating in the photos.

  • Search for replacement adapters using the exact part number 332-10934-01 or the power rating (12V, 10A with a 4-pin DIN connector matching your pinout) on specialized server/NAS parts supplier websites or eBay.

    The adapter is OEM'd from CWT, and any adapter with that label should be compatible.

     

    But also double-check that the replacement delivers 120W (or alternatively10A).  If a replacement doesn't say what power it delivers, then pass on that option.

      Thank you for those useful information.  Some Synology models use the same 4-pin layout with 10A rating.  The same adaptor Model:2ABU120F has two different connector types, 4 pins and one center pin.  I ordered one from Amazon, which shows the 4 pin layout and the 10A rating.  It will arrive in a week.

       

      The 4-pin layout ones have two 12V+ and two GNDs.  This leads me to believe that it probably provides a redundancy for the 12V, 10A power supply to the NAS, if one fails, the remaining one still provides the 12V.  The other possibility is each pair providing 5A to the NAS.  I am not sure what is the reason for two pairs of 12V power supplies to NAS. 

       

      The failed power supply unit indicates 25V at both pairs.  Google says it is an indication of a "feed back" component failure. Both pairs fail at the same time, meaning it is not a truly "redundant" power supply design, since there is a common component feeding power to terminals for both pairs.   It maybe a choice of the NAS power supply design for design or economical reasons.

        You are correct, the two 12V pins and the 2 ground pins are in parallel -- no true redundancy.  The main purpose of the 4 pins is likely to differentiate the larger amperage supply for the 4-bay units from the 2-bay units' 5A supply, which have the more common barrel connector.   They likely have a lower contact resistance, but that's probably not a big enough driver.  If that 25V reading is with no load, it may not be an issue.  But if that's under load, then the NAS may also be damaged.

  • The 25V reading is under no load.  My RN-524x was shutdown gracefully before the NAS was moved to another location.  However, the NAS could not be turned on after plugging in an outlet and turned on. I reset the NAS, but the boot menu was not shown up.  I then disconnect the power connector to the unit and measuring the voltage at the pins. It was 25V at both pairs of pin.  I determined that the PSU failed and decided to purchase a new PSU.  I hope that the mother board has a surge protection, so that it wouldn't be damaged in case of PSU failure.  But, I am not sure.
