First I'd try drop/drag all the other files you need in that share. Try the drop/drag just the pst file as Ixa suggests.
Perhaps try teracopy, and use its verify function to check the copies.
The risk of removing disk 1 is that if there is another drive on the edge you would lose the rest of the data. so its best to get all the data you can off the system before you remove it.
