The point of RAID is to provide redundancy/high-availability. If a single disk fails, data remains intact. This doesn't negate the need for a backup at all as there are a number of problems that RAID can't protect you against. See Preventing Catastrophic Data Loss

So? Testing the disks using WD LifeGuard diagnostics is more thorough. You could still have a bad disk.
