ReadyNAS NV+ RND4000 Capacity
Hello We have been running a ReadyNAS NV+ RND4000 for a number of years now, with just one 3TB drive. Running XRAID, we had 700GB of storage space. Recently, we needed to up that capacity, so...

You're running the latest production firmware for your NV+.
The v2 uses very different hardware. The OS for the v2 won't run on the v1 and vice versa.
So you should either get 2TB disks for your NV+ v1 or get a new ReadyNAS (note the RAID format is different so the disks would need to be wiped by the new NAS).

Thanks for the replies and sorry to take so long to get back -- I hadn't realised there were any replies (oops).
OK, so the firmware version running is 4.1.14. This is quite disappointing to learn, since hard drives here in Australia are far from cheap, which means the whole replacement thing isn't as easy as it could be.
Is there any way to update the firmware? I'm thinking that since neither of you offered that as a solution, this isn't a possibility...

I thought that would be the case.
I had a look around at prices, comparing the cost of a new ReadyNAS vs replacing the disks, and the cost is roughly the same -- but, of course, we'd have far less space with 2TB disks than 3TB disks with a new NAS.
I am aware that the disks would need to be wiped by the new ReadyNAS -- overall, though, we're looking at the same timeframe, since e'd have to move all the data from the 3TB disks anyway.
Thanks very much for your help. It is rather a shame we hadn't realised this issue earlier on, but you live and you learn.

Since you already have the 3 TB drives, I think you are correct on the costs.
Note that the brand new RN3xx and above that were purchased from authorized resellers includes lifetime chat/email support. The RN2xx and below only include 90 day installation support (and of course the warranty). If you are using the NAS for a business, you should probably consider the RN312. That would give you 3 TB of RAID-1 storage with your existing disks (4x what you have today).
